KSGAC’s story

Purchasing this product goes toward the KSGAC

For more than 25 years, the Kimberley Stolen Generation Aboriginal Corporation (KSGAC) has stood alongside Stolen Generation survivors and families, uncovering truths ignored by history, restoring connection to family, language, culture and Country and building pathways to healing that will endure for generations.

We are Aboriginal-led and survivor-led. Every step we take is guided by the voices of those who lived this history: people who were removed from their families, and people who searched and waited in hope for them to come home. Their courage, knowledge and resilience form the heart of everything we do.

In the Kimberley, more than half of the Aboriginal population are descendants of the Stolen Generation. Some have carried this truth all their lives, others are only now piecing together their history. All share a legacy of resilience and cultural strength that has survived deliberate attempts to erase it.

The Purple Rose – chosen by survivors

The Purple Rose (botanical name: Native Hibiscus) thrives where little else can. It survives drought, poor soil, and harsh winds, holding its colour and beauty against all odds.

Survivors chose it because it reflects their own journeys, enduring despite eugenic policies designed to break them, and holding fast to identity, hope and love. Its deep purple petals honour the truth of their stories and carry the pledge that healing will continue.

KSGAC is the custodian of The Purple Rose nationwide. Sales directly fund survivor-led programs:

·                  10 flowers provide critical care packages for Stolen Generation survivors and families in need.

·                  50 flowers provide essential groceries for Elders and survivors, easing cost-of-living pressures.

·                  100 flowers provide a survivor’s portrait for the Kimberley Stolen Generation Portrait Exhibition, preserving their story and truth.

·                  1,000 flowers provide a headstone for a Stolen Generation survivor with an unmarked grave.

·                  5,000 flowers assist a Stolen Generation survivor to reunite with family and return to Country.

To truly understand the journey of the members of the Stolen Generation, we must start with truth-telling.

Every Indigenous person has the right to know where they come from, their tribe, language, Country and family. It is the essence of who we are as part of the longest continuous culture on the planet, something Australia should embrace and celebrate.
